TASTING NOTES

Doundrins Hibiscus Liqueur is crafted using premium dried hibiscus flowers and select dried spices, all mascerated directly in our vodka. After masceration, we filter out the solids using a wine press to capture every drop of vibrant, floral flavor.
While we pride ourselves on using fresh, locally sourced ingredients from Wisconsin farmers whenever possible, hibiscus is an exception. Hibiscus plants thrive only in hot, tropical climates near the equator and cannot be grown commercially in our region. Because of this, we source our hibiscus flowers through a reputable spice company that specializes in globally grown botanicals.
We carefully selected this source to ensure consistent quality, flavor, and sustainability. Though we can’t visit the hibiscus fields ourselves, we hold our non-local ingredients to the same high standards as the ones we source down the road.
The stunning ruby red color of the hibiscus comes naturally from the flowers, but over time we discovered that this plant-based color fades quickly with exposure to sunlight. While the flavor remains unchanged, the fading color caused concern for some of our retail partners and customers. In response, we made a rare exception to add a plant-derived, natural color to maintain the product’s striking hue on shelves—based entirely on consumer feedback and with a commitment to transparency. This is the only product we make with any added color.
Hibiscus flowers are native to tropical regions and are primarily grown in countries along the equator, such as those in Asia, Africa, and South America. Since hibiscus doesn’t grow in Wisconsin’s climate, we rely on a spice company with deep experience in sourcing high-quality dried hibiscus in bulk. While we don’t work with a specific grower in this case, we’ve chosen this path intentionally to ensure we maintain the same level of care, flavor, and integrity found in all our products.
