We're looking for a few people to join our Event Door Staff group and help with check-in and ticket sales during some of our larger special events at Doundrins Distilling.
This is not a regular weekly position. Instead, we'll post the event shifts we need help with in advance, and you can choose which available shifts you'd like to work. There is no minimum number of shifts you need to pick up.
The job itself is pretty straightforward. A lot of what you'll be doing is checking people off a presale list as they arrive, selling tickets at the door, and keeping the check-in line moving during the rush before an event.
You don't need previous ticketing or POS experience. We'll show you how everything works.
Pay & Schedule
- $15/hour
- No tips
- Very part-time and event-based
- No minimum number of shifts required
- Available event shifts are posted in advance, and you can choose which ones you'd like to work
- Most shifts will be approximately 2–4 hours
- Most shifts will be evenings and/or weekends
- Event dates are known in advance
- Must be at least 18 years old
Depending on what's going on, there may be several shifts available in a month or there may not be many at all. You also don't have to work every month.
This is really meant for someone who wants to make some extra money here and there without committing to another regular weekly work schedule.
What the Job Actually Looks Like
For most events, you'll be stationed near the entrance while people are arriving.
A majority of our event tickets are sold in advance, so a lot of the job is simply asking for a name, finding the customer on an alphabetical presale list, and checking them in.
We also sell tickets at the door, so you'll take cash and card payments from walk-up customers using our POS system. We'll teach you the few things you need to know in the POS — you don't need to already know how to use it.
The beginning of an event can get busy, especially when a lot of people decide to show up at the same time. The individual tasks aren't complicated, but we do need someone who can stay organized and keep things moving when there's a line.
You'll be responsible for things like:
- Greeting customers as they arrive
- Checking in customers who purchased tickets in advance
- Quickly finding customers on an alphabetical presale list
- Selling tickets to customers purchasing at the door
- Taking cash and processing card payments through our POS
- Keeping the check-in line moving during the main arrival rush
- Answering basic questions about the event
- Keeping track of attendance and door sales when needed
- Communicating with bartenders or other staff if something comes up that you're not sure how to handle
For larger events, we may have multiple people working the door during the main rush and then drop down to one person once most customers have arrived. Some shifts may only be needed for the first couple hours of an event.
What We're Looking For
You don't need previous door, ticketing or POS experience for this position. We're much more interested in finding people who are friendly, dependable and can stay organized when things get busy.
You'd probably be a good fit if you:
- Are comfortable talking to people and greeting customers as they arrive
- Can stay organized when several groups show up at once
- Are comfortable handling cash
- Are willing to learn the basic functions of our POS system
- Can quickly find names on a list and keep track of who has already checked in
- Can keep things moving when a line starts to form
- Are comfortable working independently without someone constantly directing you
- Can recognize when something isn't right and grab another staff member for help
- Are dependable and show up when you've committed to working an event
We'll show you our check-in process and how to use everything you need for the job.
How Scheduling Works
We're basically looking to build a small group of people we can reach out to when we need extra help for an event.
When we have upcoming shifts available, we'll post the dates and times to the group and you can choose the shifts that work for you.
There is no requirement that you work a certain number of events. You might pick up a couple of shifts in one month and none the next.
Our events include things like professional wrestling, Dueling Pianos, Drag Bingo and other larger special events throughout the year.
This isn't meant to be someone's primary job. It's really for someone who wants an easy way to pick up some extra hours here and there when it works with their schedule.
Interested?
Send us an email at admin@doundrins.com with a little bit about yourself and your general availability.
It doesn't need to be anything fancy. We're mainly looking for a few reliable people who would be interested in picking up occasional event shifts when they work with your schedule.
