Event Kitchen Staff – Doundrins Distilling

We're looking for someone with previous kitchen or food-service experience to run our kitchen during some of our larger special events at Doundrins Distilling.

This isn't really a traditional cook or chef position. Our food menu is pretty simple — primarily pizzas, pretzels and air-fried items — and almost everything comes pre-prepared. There isn't a lot of traditional cooking or food prep involved.

What we really need is someone who already knows how to manage a kitchen when a rush hits.

The kitchen is primarily a solo role, so we need someone who is comfortable taking ownership of it and figuring out what needs to happen next without someone constantly directing them.

Pay & Schedule

  • $15/hour + tips
  • We pool tips each day and split them among tipped staff based on hours worked
  • Typically 2–4 shifts per month, primarily during larger special events
  • Most shifts are approximately 3–5 hours
  • 3-hour minimum guaranteed for every scheduled shift
  • Event dates are known in advance

This is a very part-time, event-based position rather than a regular weekly schedule. It could be a great fit for someone who already works in a restaurant or kitchen and wants to pick up a few extra shifts each month.

What the Job Actually Looks Like

The food itself isn't particularly complicated. Managing all of it at the same time can be.

During our larger events, you may have 15–20 orders in progress at once while managing food across as many as six ovens and three air fryers.

You'll need to keep track of what's cooking, what needs to go in next, what can wait, and how to time different items so everything from an order is ready at roughly the same time.

You'll be responsible for things like:

  • Preparing pizzas, pretzels and air-fried menu items
  • Managing the kitchen independently during special events
  • Keeping track of multiple orders and cooking times at once
  • Prioritizing incoming orders and deciding what needs to be cooked next
  • Timing different items so an entire order is ready together
  • Managing rushes that can include 15–20 orders in progress at the same time
  • Running completed orders to a common pickup/service area
  • Communicating with bartenders and other staff when needed
  • Restocking and keeping the kitchen organized throughout service
  • Handling kitchen setup and cleanup before and after events

We'll show you our menu, equipment and how we prepare everything. What we aren't really able to teach from scratch is how to manage a busy kitchen workflow, which is why previous experience is important for this position.

What We're Looking For

Previous kitchen or food-service experience is important for this position.

We're not looking for someone with culinary training, and you definitely don't need to be a chef. We're much more interested in finding someone who has worked in a busy kitchen before and already understands how to manage tickets, timing and priorities when a bunch of orders come in at once.

You'd probably be a good fit if you:

  • Have previous experience in a restaurant, bar kitchen, concession kitchen or similar food-service environment
  • Understand how to manage multiple tickets/orders during a rush
  • Are good at managing your time and figuring out what needs to happen first
  • Can keep track of several cooking times at once without losing track of something
  • Can work quickly without getting completely disorganized when things get busy
  • Are comfortable working independently without constant direction
  • Notice what needs to happen next and just do it
  • Can communicate and coordinate with bartenders and the rest of the staff when needed
  • Are dependable and show up when you're scheduled

Again, the actual food is the easy part of this job. We're looking for someone who already has the kitchen experience to keep everything organized and moving when we're busy.

It doesn't need to be anything fancy — we'd mostly like to know a little about you, what your availability looks like, and what kind of kitchen or food-service experience you have.
